The first lighthouse on the Finnish island of Utö was built in 1753 and it was the first of its kind in Finland. It was a circular structure with a height of 24 meters. However, it was destroyed in the course of the Swedish-Russian war in 1808-1809. The building that has survived to this day was erected in 1814, that is, during the Napoleonic wars! It took a completely different form from its predecessor and was mostly made of granite. The lighthouse tower is 26 meters high, but thanks to its foundation on a small hill, it rises about 40 meters above sea level. Its range of white light is 26.5 nautical miles (NM). The current gear that generates the light projected by the lantern was installed in 1906. The lighthouse, although still active, is de facto treated as a cultural monument.
