Dragon 2017 XB-35 USAF Flying Wing, Experimental Heavy Bomber

The Northrop YB-35 was a prototype US-made bomber from the Second World War and the Cold War. The drive was provided by four motors Pratt and Whitney R-4360, 3000 HP each. The first flight of this machine took place in June 1946 - the plane never entered mass production. The on-board armament was to consist of as many as 20 12.7 mm machine guns and a bomb load of up to 7,200 kg.

The Northrop YB-35 was created in connection with a competition announced in 1941 by the American Air Force for a new strategic bomber with a load capacity of over 4,500 kilograms of bombs and a range of up to 16,000 kilometers. Several labels stood up to compete (including Boeing or Consolidated), but in the end, Northrop emerged victorious. However, the work on the prototypes of the new bomber took a long time, and what is more, at the time of the prototype's flight, it turned out that its performance was far from the assumed ones. With the end of World War II, it also became clear that future strategic bombers should be powered by jet engines, not piston engines. All this caused the YB-35 project to be canceled, and Northropa's manufacturing company redesigned the structure to accommodate the use of jet engines - this is how the YB-49 was created.
