Yohmei-Mon is one of the sacred buildings erected in the temple complex of the Shinto religion called Nikko Tosho-gu in the city of Nikko, in the Tochigi Prefecture on the island of Honshu. The construction of the complex began in 1617 on the initiative of the son of the great Tokugawa shogun - Ieyasu Tokugawa, and was later continued by his grandson. Incidentally, Ieyasu Tokugawa is one of the most important figures in the history of Japan in the 16th and 17th centuries. Currently, the Nikko Tosho-gu complex covers an area of approximately 80,000 m2, and 55 buildings are situated on this large space. Among them, Yohmei-Mon is considered to be one of the most beautiful and most important, which can be translated into Polish as the Gate of Sunlight. It is richly decorated with gold, which makes the square in front of it very well lit on clear days. Another name for the gateway is Higurashi-no-mon.
